Paris is an old city full of intrigue with a long history; ideally situated along the banks of the river Seine. Owing to the amount of places to visit a short stay in Paris will be a busy one; it is almost guaranteed that a second, longer stay will be required.
This city is also equally well known for its Gothic architecture and markets; it has much to offer visitors who adore culture, even if it is only for a long weekend. Traveling around Paris is relatively easy for visitors as well as locals; the Metro underground train network will probably be the main method as it runs regularly and reaches every part of the city.
You can't miss the Eiffel Tower, mainly because it's over three hundred meters high; it provides stunning views from the top and is visible throughout most of the city. Illuminated at night it dominates the city's skyline; it is possible to take organized tours which tell the story of the Tower and the history of France.
On your Paris trip ensure you add the famous Champs Elysees to your list of places to visit; if you want to see famous, designer label shops and the restaurants, this is the place. This avenue may be select but it attracts large numbers of visitors daily; most of the five star hotels are located here but more affordable hotels can be found further out.
This city is also the home to the renowned Louvre Museum; it houses over three hundred thousand exhibits but not all of them are ever on display at the same time. Even on a short stay in Paris, this is a an art lovers paradise; unfortunately it has so many visitors each year that some people are unable to see their favorite works. Paris has always been a magnetic destination for artists; many of whom left large collections of their paintings here like Monet and Picasso.
Of course, Napoleon commissioned the construction of the Arc de Triomphe, another Paris landmark; engraved with the names of generals that commanded his troops, it has become a popular photo spot for tourists visiting Paris. It also features an observatory to take in surrounding views; it is located in Place Charles de Gaulle where twelve of the city's main avenues start, including Avenue de Champs Elysees.
Obviously, these are not the only places to visit; but these should certainly not to be missed because many offer regular guided tours, some at little or no charge at all. A Paris Short stay vacation should only ever be considered a sample of what the city can offer; those attractions that cannot be seen will still be there the next time you visit.
